MYOMECTOMY (UTERINE FIBROIDS)

Uterine fibroids are some of the most common tumors in the female pelvis. In general, fibroids are multiple and can be found in all areas of the uterus. These tumors can arise in the interstitial muscle substance of the uterine wall, inner surface of the uterine canal called submucous, surface of the uterus called subserosal, ligaments attached to the uterus called interligamentous or attached via a stalk called pedunculated. A fibroid uterus is generally enlarged and irregular in shape. Depending on the fibroid location on the uterus, these masses will cause different symptoms including pain, pressure, bleeding (irregular or heavy) or possibly changes to urinary and bowel function.
